EMPA Academy – Musical Theatre, Performances and Concerts
The EMPA academy was first established in 2008 and has become popular due to its friendly, community atmosphere in which all pupils get to know each other well. It is an exciting and vibrant place with good relationships between tutors and pupils. This allows increased support and guidance and the invaluable passing on of expertise experience within the performing arts industry.
A weekly workshop held on Wednesdays 6.45-8.30pm, which gives all children a chance to experience lessons in singing, dancing and acting. Learn songs from your favourite musicals such as High school musical, Cats, Oliver, Annie, Blood Brothers and many more…. All work is showcased in the EMPA Academy Annual concerts. The workshop is suitable for all children aged 8 upwards. No previous experience of singing, acting or dancing is necessary. Pupils can enter for the Rockschool Performance art awards and performance medal test awards
Performance & Concerts
Each student will be given as many opportunities as possible to perform to their family, friends and the wider public. All students are involved in our annual EMPA Academy Easter show and Christmas productions.
Based on its considerable experience of successfully preparing students for professional performing careers, the academy offers an unparalleled range of opportunities for students to gain performance experience throughout their training.
Performing before a ‘live’ audience is perceived as an indispensable aspect of theatrical training, offering students a whole variety of experiences from auditioning, through rehearsals to the stresses and disciplines of a professionally devised production. The academy shows and performances are staged in a variety of different venues. They
are all steered by an experienced professional team of lighting, sound and stage management technicians.
With its extensive contacts in the professional world of agents and choreographers, it is possible for the academy to ensure that all its productions act as valuable showcases for the students who take part. They offer the pupils exposure to a range of employers in the professional theatre able to be of assistance to them in the highly competitive careers on which they are about to embark. Performing experience is viewed as an essential part of the training at the academy
For students we feel examinations offer a great sense of achievement as well as boosting their confidence levels. It also gives parents an indication of their child`s progress and the EMPA Academy`s results give proof of the quality level of the teaching. We are an accredited examination centre for Graded qualifications with BTDA, Rockschool, Performance Arts awards and BTEC qualifications. These exam sessions are held at regular intervals every academic year. We also offer all of our students performance medal test awards following live performances. The medal test is a performance based award system, which enables candidates to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence required for performance. These are available to all abilities, ranging from bronze medal progressing to 3rd cup
