EMPA Academy – Dance Training
The EMPA academy was first established in 2008 and has become popular due to its friendly, community atmosphere in which all pupils get to know each other well. It is an exciting and vibrant place with good relationships between tutors and pupils. This allows increased support and guidance and the invaluable passing on of expertise experience within the performing arts industry.
Students can participate in group sessions/classes and workshops or have personal individual one to one tuition. Classes are for both children and adults and the EMPA academy offers a huge range of different activities for different abilities.
Dance Class Syllabus
The correct training for your child is essential for their bodies’ development. At the EMPA Academy we follow the British Theatre Dance Association syllabus. This syllabi is one of the only four accredited by The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)and the society of the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET) who regularly meet to address issues of quality, progress, health and safety. All BTDA teachers have signed a Professional Conduct for Teachers of Dance Agreement to ensure that your child gains the best possible up to date teaching methods.
The examination structure of the BTDA is designed to cater equally for those pursuing dance purely as a leisure activity and for those who wish to progress to making dance their profession, either as a performer or dance teacher. Students can participate in as many classes and workshops as they wish but will be advised which classes are most appropriate for their age group and level. By participating in a range of activities and disciplines at the academy pupils will grow in confidence, develop communication skills and improve fitness. Every student is treated as an individual and students are encouraged to develop their skills at their own pace.
For students we feel examinations offer a great sense of achievement as well as boosting their confidence levels. It also gives parents an indication of their child`s progress and the Academy`s results give proof of the quality level of the teaching. We are an accredited examination centre for Graded qualifications with BTDA, Rockschool, Performance Arts awards and BTEC qualifications. These exam sessions are held at regular intervals every academic year. We also offer all of our students performance medal test awards following live performances. The medal test is a performance based award system, which enables candidates to gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence required for performance. These are available to all abilities, ranging from bronze medal progressing to 3rd cup
